About SMUSOM & Island Life
This program is ideal for ambitious and hard-working students who are passionate about helping others, excellent at problem-solving, and ready for a rewarding career. Doctors work in high-pressure environments, regularly handle people in distress, and make life-changing decisions, which requires immense dedication.
The MD program takes four years to complete and spans 10 total semesters (three semesters per year: Fall, Spring, Summer) with a two- to three-week break between each. It is split into two halves: five semesters of classroom and lab-based Basic Sciences on Grand Cayman, followed by five semesters of Clinical Rotations.
The Basic Sciences program prepares you extensively for the USMLE Step 1 exam. It features small class sizes taught by expert faculty in state-of-the-art facilities, including gross anatomy labs, to ensure a unique and successful learning experience.
