Saad Mohammad

When he took the USMLE, he didn’t simply pass. He attacked the exam and crushed it, scoring 249.

As an anesthesiology resident, he didn’t simply show up for work, he never missed a day, was appointed chief resident and was also awarded the prize for excellence in research within his graduating resident class.

Today, this 2010 graduate of Saba University School of Medicine is, as he himself puts it, “living a dream life” with an apartment in New York City and a position as an attending anesthesiologist at White Plains Hospital.

Today, he looks back fondly on his life as a med student at Saba. “I made great friends who were motivated like me. We immersed ourselves in our work, bonded with our professors and relished our time together.”

For his clinical training, Saad chose to experience various hospital settings and add to his roster of contacts. “I chose to travel for my clinicals because I thought that was the right thing to do. It taught me flexibility and exposed me to many varied experiences and medical professionals.”

From Saba, he was accepted into a one-year internship at Mayo Clinic in surgery where he “worked his tail off” and then a three-year anesthesiology residency at State University of New York Downstate Hospital. From there he was accepted into a year-long fellowship spot at Massachusetts General Hospital in his chosen field of anesthesiology and pain management.

His education at Saba was critical to his success. But just as important, he says, is the passion you bring to what you want to accomplish. “I saw what I wanted and went for it. I chased down every lead and opportunity that I could and that’s why I am where I am today.”
